More information
Threshold Singers of Ann Arbor (TSAA) honors the ancient tradition of singing at the bedsides of people who are struggling, some with living, some with dying. The voice, as the original human instrument, is a true and gracious vehicle for compassion and comfort. When invited – and without charge – the women of TSAA visit in small groups, welcoming families and caregivers to join us in song or simply to be quietly present.
invite us to sing
We would be honored to sing for someone in your life who would welcome and benefit from our gentle, soothing songs. Singers are available in person, by phone, or by videoconference (such as Zoom or FaceTime). If time is of the essence, we will try our best to meet your need. Contact us.
our singing
Music has a way of quieting fears and opening the hearts of all present. Often, there is emotional release.
When we are invited to a bedside or other venue, a small group (usually two to four of us) will spend about a half hour singing very, very softly to your loved one. We sing in much the same way that a mother sings to a child. Not surprisingly, loved ones, including family members and caregivers, usually respond by becoming calmer and more settled. Songs are chosen with the current needs and spiritual orientation of your loved one in mind. Our repertoire includes lullabies, simple rounds, chants, and songs from many spiritual traditions.
We also offer singing for the community from time to time, through our program entitled “A Gift of Song.”
